Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work British Distant Thoughts by Marcus Stone was auctioned at Sothebys in London in October 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,389.95). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marcus Stone achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work My Lady is a Widow and Childless 'Tis better to be lowly born, and range with humble livers in content, than to be perk'd up in a glistering grief, and wear a golden sorrow' William Shakespeare, The Life of King Henry VIII, act II, scene, 3. in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 116,650.00 (€ 170,305.32).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit British Distant Thoughts von Marcus Stone im Oktober 2008 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.875,00 (€ 2.389,95) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Marcus Stone erzielen.
