Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life With Apricots And Cherries by Luis Meléndez was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 986,500.00 (€ 1,127,248.19). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Luis Meléndez - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Oranges, nuts, spices, boxes of sweetmeats, a jug and a cask on a table, which sold at auction in February 2012 for GBP 3,513,250.00 (€ 4,194,913.60).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Still Life With Apricots And Cherries von Luis Meléndez im Juli 2013 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 986.500,00 (€ 1.127.248,19) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Luis Meléndez mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Oranges, nuts, spices, boxes of sweetmeats, a jug and a cask on a table beobachtet, die im Februar 2012 für GBP 3.513.250,00 (€ 4.194.913,60) versteigert wurde.
