LU HUI (1851-1920) Seven-character Calligraphy Couplet in Clerical Script A pair of hanging scroll, ink on paper Each scroll measures 146.6 x 39.5 cm. (57 3 ⁄ 4 x 15 1 ⁄ 2 in.) Dated winter, renzi year (1912) Further inscribed and signed by the artist, with two seals Dated jiayin (1914) NOTE: Lu Hui, original name You Hui, otherwise known as Lianfu, Juansou, and Po Fo An Zhuren, is native to Wujiang, Jiangsu province. Lu is skilled in clerical script calligraphy and painting scenery, figures, flowers-and-birds. He is an important figure in the school of Wu. He has participated in the Shanghai Pinghua Calligraphy and Painting Society, the Yiyuan Painting Society, the Haishang Tijin Guan Jinshi Calligraphy and Painting Society, and many more.
