This artwork by Louis-Jean-François Lagrenée achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Paris in December 2020. In the Tableaux Dessins Sculptures 1300-1900 auction, the work AURORA AND TITHONUS sold for EUR 176,400.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 100,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Louis-Jean-François Lagrenée; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Charles And Ubalde, Surrounded By Nymphs On Their Way To Rescue Renaud From The Palais D'Armide sold at auction in February 2018 with the realized price of USD 325,000.00 (€ 266,153.47).
