The work Eight-Character Couplet in by Li Hongzhang was worth HKD 529,000.00 (€ 54,462.09) to a buyer in October 2014. This price was achieved in the auction Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Four Seas at China Guardian in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 40,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Li Hongzhang; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Calligraphy sold at auction in April 2013 with the realized price of HKD 1,035,000.00 (€ 101,314.93).
