Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The actor Nakamura Fukusuke in the role of Ono no Komachi performing in the play Ono no Komachi Calls Forth the Rain by Toyohara Kunichika was sold in the Japanese Woodblock Prints | Including the Sokolov Collection auction at Sothebys in London in May 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,260.00 (€ 1,466.04) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Toyohara Kunichika achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Artisans, Beauties And Annual Events in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 56,250.00 (€ 47,900.88).
