Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2010 Christies in London held the auction Japanese Art and Design, which included the work Five prints from Raiken zui Pictures of Imported Birds, the first four signed Keisai utsusu and sealed in red, good impressions and colour, slight soiling and creasing, three with vertical centrefolds by Kitao Masayoshi. The price achieved of GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,489.73) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Kitao Masayoshi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Kaihaku Raikin Zui (Illustrated Catalogue Of Birds From Overseas), which sold at auction in September 2021 for USD 11,250.00 (€ 9,717.54).
