This artwork by Katsukawa Shunshō achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Los Angeles in September this year. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work The actor Ichikawa Ebizo in Shibaraku sold for USD 5,292.00 (€ 5,000.00) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Katsukawa Shunshō achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Beauty writing a letter, ca. 1789-92 in September 2006 with an auction result of USD 72,000.00 (€ 56,751.00).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Katsukawa Shunshō erzielte im September diesen Jahres bei Christies in Los Angeles einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art wurde die Arbeit The actor Ichikawa Ebizo in Shibaraku für USD 5.292,00 (€ 5.000,00) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Katsukawa Shunshō erzielen.
