In July last year Sothebys in London held the auction Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints, which included the work A teahouse waitress and two actors by Katsukawa Shunshō. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 21,420.00 (€ 25,579.28), 43% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Katsukawa Shunshō - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Beauty writing a letter, ca. 1789-92, which sold at auction in September 2006 for USD 72,000.00 (€ 56,751.00).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 43 % übertroffen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Masters of the Woodblock: Important Japanese Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit A teahouse waitress and two actors von Katsukawa Shunshō zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 21.420,00 (€ 25.579,28) und damit 43% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Katsukawa Shunshō mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Beauty writing a letter, ca. 1789-92 beobachtet, die im September 2006 für USD 72.000,00 (€ 56.751,00) versteigert wurde.
