In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait Of Old John, Head Waiter At The King'S Head Inn In Derby, Half-Length, In A Painted Oval by Joseph Wright of Derby. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 106,250.00 (€ 119,568.81), 33% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Wright of Derby achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Academy By Lamplight in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,263,700.00 (€ 8,174,230.35).

Im Dezember 2017 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait Of Old John, Head Waiter At The King'S Head Inn In Derby, Half-Length, In A Painted Oval von Joseph Wright of Derby zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 106.250,00 (€ 119.568,81) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Wright of Derby erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Academy By Lamplight im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.263.700,00 (€ 8.174.230,35).
