Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2020 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master Day Sale including Old Master Paintings, Drawings and British Works on Paper, which included the work Portrait Of Nicholas Hutchinson, Half-Length, Wearing A Brown Coat And White Stock by Joseph Wright of Derby. The price achieved of GBP 12,500.00 (€ 13,942.80) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Wright of Derby achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Academy By Lamplight in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 7,263,700.00 (€ 8,174,230.35).

Im Juli 2020 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master Day Sale including Old Master Paintings, Drawings and British Works on Paper durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait Of Nicholas Hutchinson, Half-Length, Wearing A Brown Coat And White Stock von Joseph Wright of Derby zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 12.500,00 (€ 13.942,80) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Wright of Derby erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Academy By Lamplight im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.263.700,00 (€ 8.174.230,35).
