Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View Near Campitello In The Italian Alps by Joseph Gandy was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,442.95). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Gandy achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Design for Waterloo Palace, the proposed town residence of the Duke of Wellington in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 118,100.00 (€ 150,228.36).
