In May 2008 Christies in London held the auction West ~ East - The Niall Hobhouse Collection, which included the work Design for Waterloo Palace, the proposed town residence of the Duke of Wellington by Joseph Gandy. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 118,100.00 (€ 150,228.36), 48% above the upper estimate. With this result, Design for Waterloo Palace, the proposed town residence of the Duke of Wellington is even the most expensive work of art by Joseph Gandy that we have observed at auctions so far.
