This artwork by José Joya achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in May 2017. In the Contemporaries: Voices from East and West / Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art (Evening Sale) auction, the work Elysium sold for HKD 5,100,000.00 (€ 582,351.37) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 2,800,000.00. This high result makes Elysium the most expensive artwork by José Joya that we have observed at auctions so far.
