This artwork by John William Waterhouse achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2018. In the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art auction, the work The Siren sold for GBP 3,835,800.00 (€ 4,300,775.24) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John William Waterhouse - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work St Cecilia 'In a clear walled city on the sea, Near gilded organ pipes... ...slept St Cecily', which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 6,603,750.00 (€ 10,467,756.68).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von John William Waterhouse erzielte im Juli 2018 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art wurde die Arbeit The Siren für GBP 3.835.800,00 (€ 4.300.775,24) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.500.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von John William Waterhouse mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit St Cecilia 'In a clear walled city on the sea, Near gilded organ pipes... ...slept St Cecily' beobachtet, die im Juni 2000 für GBP 6.603.750,00 (€ 10.467.756,68) versteigert wurde.
