Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2019 Christies in New York held the auction European Art Part I, which included the work The Soul of the Rose by John William Waterhouse. It changed hands for a price of USD 4,695,000.00 (€ 4,208,874.94) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 3,000,000.00 – 5,000,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John William Waterhouse - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work St Cecilia 'In a clear walled city on the sea, Near gilded organ pipes... ...slept St Cecily', which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 6,603,750.00 (€ 10,467,756.68).
