Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In March 2012 Christies in New York held the auction Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture Including the Collection of Dr. Mark and Irene Kauffman, which included the work Surf at Sunset by John Whorf. Here, the upper estimate of USD 10,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 11,250.00 (€ 8,437.08). Admittedly, works by John Whorf have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work On The Dunes in March 2007 with an auction result of USD 51,000.00 (€ 38,133.69).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im März 2012 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture Including the Collection of Dr. Mark and Irene Kauffman durch, in der auch die Arbeit Surf at Sunset von John Whorf zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 10.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 11.250,00 (€ 8.437,08) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Whorf auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit On The Dunes im März 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 51.000,00 (€ 38.133,69).
