This artwork by John Smart achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2019. In the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures Part II auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Lady Chambers, Née Frances 'Fanny' Wilton (1758-1839) sold for GBP 18,750.00 (€ 20,586.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Smart have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Muhammad 'Ali Khan, Nawab Of Arcot And Prince Of The Carnatic (1718-1795) in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 120,500.00 (€ 153,620.47).
