This artwork by John Smart achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2019. In the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III auction, the work Portrait Of Thomas Cockburn (1763-1850) sold for GBP 17,500.00 (€ 20,682.95) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 7,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Smart have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Muhammad 'Ali Khan, Nawab Of Arcot And Prince Of The Carnatic (1718-1795) in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 120,500.00 (€ 153,620.47).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von John Smart erzielte im Dezember 2019 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III wurde die Arbeit Portrait Of Thomas Cockburn (1763-1850) für GBP 17.500,00 (€ 20.682,95) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 7.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Smart auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait Of Muhammad 'Ali Khan, Nawab Of Arcot And Prince Of The Carnatic (1718-1795) im April 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 120.500,00 (€ 153.620,47).
