Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2014 Christies in London held the auction Travel, Science & Natural History, which included the work Hobart Town From The New Town Road; Hobart Town From Kangaroo Bay; Hobart Town From The New Wharf; New Town, Mount Direction & C. From Newlands; And Port Arthur V.D.L. by John Skinner Prout. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,282.31) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Skinner Prout achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tom Thumb's Lagoon, 1844 in November 2020 with an auction result of AUD 55,350.00 (€ 46,325.74).

From Newlands; And Port Arthur V.D.L. von John Skinner Prout zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 1.875,00 (€ 2.282,31) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Skinner Prout erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tom Thumb's Lagoon, 1844 im November 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von AUD 55.350,00 (€ 46.325,74).
