Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Flora Priestley by John Singer Sargent was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 93,750.00 (€ 85,080.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Singer Sargent achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work San Geremia in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 9,087,500.00 (€ 7,787,060.84).
