This artwork by John Singer Sargent achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January last year. In the 19th Century American Art auction, the work Spanish Madonna and Child sold for USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,743.85) - well above the upper estimate of USD 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Singer Sargent achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work San Geremia in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 9,087,500.00 (€ 7,787,060.84).
