In March 2008 Christies in London held the auction Christie's Interiors, which included the work Moonlight over Lake Como, Bellagio in the distance by John MacWhirter. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 812.50 (€ 1,020.70), 35% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John MacWhirter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Exile's Garden in May 2019 with an auction result of GBP 18,812.00 (€ 21,294.06).

Im März 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Christie's Interiors durch, in der auch die Arbeit Moonlight over Lake Como, Bellagio in the distance von John MacWhirter zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 812,50 (€ 1.020,70) und damit 35% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John MacWhirter erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Exile's Garden im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 18.812,00 (€ 21.294,06).
