Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Candida And Astra Tacking For The Finishing Line Off The Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes by John J. Holmes was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2006. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 840.00 (€ 1,226.13) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John J. Holmes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,238.11).
