In November 2008 Christies in London held the auction Christie's Interiors, which included the work Octavia and Ailsa setting out for a day's sail by John J. Holmes. The result of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,209.08) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John J. Holmes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,238.11).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im November 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Christie's Interiors durch, in der auch die Arbeit Octavia and Ailsa setting out for a day's sail von John J. Holmes zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 1.000,00 (€ 1.209,08) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00. Für andere Arbeiten von John J. Holmes mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934 beobachtet, die im Mai 2007 für GBP 2.880,00 (€ 4.238,11) versteigert wurde.
