This artwork by John Hoppner achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in Edinburgh in April 2021. In the The Dunrobin Attic Sale auction, the work Sketch of a boy seated by a tree sold for GBP 2,422.50 (€ 2,786.58) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Hoppner achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 81,900.00 (€ 96,044.73).
