Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Lady Jane Perceval, née Wilson (1769-1844), half-length, in a black dress with lace sleeves by John Hoppner was sold in the Old Masters Part II: Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Watercolours auction at Christies in London in December this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,080.00 (€ 11,611.77) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Hoppner have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 81,900.00 (€ 96,044.73).
