Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Hoppner could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in May last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of the Hon. Miss Emma (Crewe) Cunliffe seated with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in a landscape with a kettle with burning embers at right changed hands for USD 13,860.00 (€ 12,915.85) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Hoppner have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 81,900.00 (€ 96,044.73).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von John Hoppner konnte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion Master Paintings wechselte die Arbeit Portrait of the Hon. Miss Emma (Crewe) Cunliffe seated with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in a landscape with a kettle with burning embers at right für USD 13.860,00 (€ 12.915,85) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Hoppner auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children im Juli 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 81.900,00 (€ 96.044,73).
