Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Hoppner could be acquired at Bonhams in London in September last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a lady, bust-length, in a brown and white dress changed hands for GBP 2,550.00 (€ 2,902.15) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Hoppner achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 81,900.00 (€ 96,044.73).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von John Hoppner konnte im September letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion Old Master Paintings wechselte die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, bust-length, in a brown and white dress für GBP 2.550,00 (€ 2.902,15) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Hoppner erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children im Juli 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 81.900,00 (€ 96.044,73).
