This artwork by John Hamilton Mortimer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in March 2017. In the Two Great Scottish Collections: Property from the Forbeses of Pitsligo and the Marquesses of Lothian auction, the work A Study Of Two Friars; Together With A Study Of A Nude (Double Sided); And A Court Scene sold for GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,687.61) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Hamilton Mortimer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Banditti fishing in January 2012 with an auction result of USD 116,500.00 (€ 89,251.51).
