Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Quorn Hunt in Full Cry, with Lord Rancliffe, Mr Francis Holyoake, Mr James Maxse on 'Cognac', Lord Elcho, Captain Horatio Ross, Mr John Ferneley, Mr Valentine Mayer, Sir Harry Goodriche and Squire Osbaldeston by John Ferneley, Sen. was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 112,500.00 (€ 132,961.83) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Ferneley, Sen. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Silver firs at Osberton in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 692,000.00 (€ 1,018,324.83).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 112.500,00 (€ 132.961,83) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Ferneley, Sen. auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Silver firs at Osberton im Mai 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 692.000,00 (€ 1.018.324,83).
