A top price for John Constable - as previously expected
In June 2016 Christies in London held the auction Defining British Art Evening Sale, which included the work View on the Stour near Dedham, full-scale sketch by John Constable. The price achieved of GBP 14,082,500.00 (€ 16,903,595.45) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000,000.00 – 16,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, View on the Stour near Dedham, full-scale sketch is the most expensive artwork by John Constable that we have observed at auctions so far.
