Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of the Reverend Dr. John Wingfield (1760-1825), Canon of Worcester Cathedral, half-length, in a black gown and white bands by John Constable was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2024. It changed hands for a price of USD 27,720.00 (€ 24,226.53) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Constable achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work View on the Stour near Dedham, full-scale sketch in June 2016 with an auction result of GBP 14,082,500.00 (€ 16,903,595.45).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Portrait of the Reverend Dr. John Wingfield (1760-1825), Canon of Worcester Cathedral, half-length, in a black gown and white bands von John Constable kam im Januar 2024 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 27.720,00 (€ 24.226,53) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Constable erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit View on the Stour near Dedham, full-scale sketch im Juni 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 14.082.500,00 (€ 16.903.595,45).
