Auction result well in line with expectations
In October last year Bonhams in London held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work A peacetime fleet at anchor by John Cleveley the Elder. The price achieved of GBP 2,295.00 (€ 2,673.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Cleveley the Elder achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work King George Iii Reviewing The Fleet At Spithead, Off Portsmouth Harbour in December 2014 with an auction result of GBP 290,500.00 (€ 373,969.84).
