Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Portrait Of W.B. Yeats by John Butler Yeats was auctioned at Sothebys in London in September 2017, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at GBP 30,000.00 (€ 34,035.38). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Butler Yeats - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Self Portrait, New York, which sold at auction in September 2017 for GBP 87,500.00 (€ 99,269.87).

Als die Arbeit Portrait Of W.B. Yeats von John Butler Yeats im September 2017 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 5.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 30.000,00 (€ 34.035,38) mehr als sechsmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von John Butler Yeats mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Self Portrait, New York beobachtet, die im September 2017 für GBP 87.500,00 (€ 99.269,87) versteigert wurde.
