Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2014 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Old Masters, 19th Century and Impressionist Art, which included the work Sailing in a calm estuary by Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek. Here, the upper estimate of EUR 6,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for EUR 6,250.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work De gestrande boot: a beached three-master with beachcombers along the shore in October 2000 with an auction result of NLG 257,444.00 (€ 123,564.63).
