Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A bearded man, bust-length, in a fur-lined coat and turban, with a gold strap; and An old woman, bust-length, in a brown embroidered robe and inscribed sash and head band, holding a scroll and a staff by Johann Zoffany was sold in the Old Master and British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 218,500.00 (€ 259,625.27) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Johann Zoffany achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Garden At Hampton House, With Mr And Mrs David Garrick Taking Tea; And The Shakespeare Temple At Hampton House, With Mr And Mrs David Garrick in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 6,761,250.00 (€ 8,097,551.93).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 218.500,00 (€ 259.625,27) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
