(1723-1792), offered the artist 100 gns. for the picture at the 1770 Royal Academy exhibition, but resigned his intended purchase to the following, | Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle (1748-1825), Castle Howard, and by decsent to the following, | Major George Howard, Baron Howard of Henderskelfe (1920-1984), Castle Howard, and by descent; Sotheby's, London, 29 November 2001, lot 11 (£861,500), when acquired.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Garrick with Burton and Palmer in 'The Alchymist' by Johann Zoffany was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,042,500.00 (€ 1,222,547.41) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Johann Zoffany have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Garden At Hampton House, With Mr And Mrs David Garrick Taking Tea; And The Shakespeare Temple At Hampton House, With Mr And Mrs David Garrick in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 6,761,250.00 (€ 8,097,551.93).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Garrick with Burton and Palmer in 'The Alchymist' von Johann Zoffany kam im Juli 2021 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.042.500,00 (€ 1.222.547,41) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
