Upper estimate price exceeded by 68 %.
In October 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work Playa De Valencia by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida. The »bidding war« ended at USD 50,400.00 (€ 43,272.95), 68% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Spanish pescadores Valencianos (Valencian Fishermen) in November 2012 with an auction result of GBP 3,737,250.00 (€ 4,603,912.82).
