Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work The Dutch maiden leading the Prince of Orange to battle by Joachim Wtewael was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 150,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 563,250.00 (€ 628,262.46). Admittedly, works by Joachim Wtewael have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Mars and Venus Surprised by Vulcan in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 4,633,250.00 (€ 5,901,515.18).
