Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Venus And Adonis by Joachim Wtewael was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2009. The price achieved of USD 74,500.00 (€ 58,184.94) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joachim Wtewael achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mars and Venus Surprised by Vulcan in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 4,633,250.00 (€ 5,901,515.18).
