The work Adam And Eve by Joachim Wtewael was worth USD 6,242,500.00 (€ 4,551,585.85) to a buyer in January 2011. This price was achieved in the auction Important Old Master Paintings & Sculpture at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 1,200,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joachim Wtewael; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mars and Venus Surprised by Vulcan sold at auction in July 2012 with the realized price of GBP 4,633,250.00 (€ 5,901,515.18).
