This artwork by Jean-Honoré Fragonard achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January last year. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work Orlando subdues a brigand with a firebrand (Orlando furioso, XIII, 34-36) sold for USD 35,000.00 (€ 31,216.55) - well above the upper estimate of USD 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Honoré Fragonard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Verrou (The Bolt) in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 5,172,000.00 (€ 7,681,613.89).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Jean-Honoré Fragonard erzielte im Januar letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Master & British Drawings wurde die Arbeit Orlando subdues a brigand with a firebrand (Orlando furioso, XIII, 34-36) für USD 35.000,00 (€ 31.216,55) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 18.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Honoré Fragonard erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le Verrou (The Bolt) im Juli 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.172.000,00 (€ 7.681.613,89).
