Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work ‘Le Verrou’ (The Bolt) by Jean-Honoré Fragonard was auctioned at Christies in New York in October last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 800,000.00 – 1,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 630,000.00 (€ 634,185.63). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Honoré Fragonard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Verrou (The Bolt) in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 5,172,000.00 (€ 7,681,613.89).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit ‘Le Verrou’ (The Bolt) von Jean-Honoré Fragonard im Oktober letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 800.000,00 – 1.000.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 630.000,00 (€ 634.185,63) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Honoré Fragonard erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le Verrou (The Bolt) im Juli 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.172.000,00 (€ 7.681.613,89).
