In January 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Old Master Drawings, which included the work A seated gladiator seen in profile by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The »bidding war« ended at USD 47,880.00 (€ 39,456.12), 37% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Honoré Fragonard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Verrou (The Bolt) in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 5,172,000.00 (€ 7,681,613.89).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 37 % übertroffen
Im Januar 2021 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Old Master Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit A seated gladiator seen in profile von Jean-Honoré Fragonard zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 47.880,00 (€ 39.456,12) und damit 37% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Honoré Fragonard erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le Verrou (The Bolt) im Juli 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.172.000,00 (€ 7.681.613,89).
