In December 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction 19th Century European Paintings, which included the work Belgian a Still Life With Roses, Grapes, And A Silver Inlaid Nautilus Shell by Jean-Baptiste Robie. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 27,500.00 (€ 32,151.96), 38% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Robie - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Roses, anenomes and peonies, strawberries, a silver-gilt ostrich egg cup and a German gold-gilt tankard on a draped table, which sold at auction in April 2000 for GBP 54,050.00 (€ 92,531.41).
