The »bidding war« ended at GBP 861,750.00 (€ 1,407,980.03), 72% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van de Cappelle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A kaag and a smak in a calm, with fishermen pulling in their catch from a rowing-boat in the foreground, a Dutch frigate and other boats beyond, which sold at auction in July 2005 for GBP 3,592,000.00 (€ 5,210,162.09).

Die Arbeit A winter landscape with skaters and kolf players on a frozen waterway by a village von Jan van de Cappelle wurde im Dezember 2001 in der Auktion Old Master Pictures bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 861.750,00 (€ 1.407.980,03) und damit 72% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Jan van de Cappelle mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A kaag and a smak in a calm, with fishermen pulling in their catch from a rowing-boat in the foreground, a Dutch frigate and other boats beyond beobachtet, die im Juli 2005 für GBP 3.592.000,00 (€ 5.210.162,09) versteigert wurde.
