The work A Calm Sea by Jan van de Cappelle was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2018. It achieved a price of GBP 2,050,000.00 (€ 2,283,881.81), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 37%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van de Cappelle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A kaag and a smak in a calm, with fishermen pulling in their catch from a rowing-boat in the foreground, a Dutch frigate and other boats beyond, which sold at auction in July 2005 for GBP 3,592,000.00 (€ 5,210,162.09).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 37 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit A Calm Sea von Jan van de Cappelle kam im Dezember 2018 bei Sothebys in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 2.050.000,00 (€ 2.283.881,81) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 37%. Für andere Arbeiten von Jan van de Cappelle mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A kaag and a smak in a calm, with fishermen pulling in their catch from a rowing-boat in the foreground, a Dutch frigate and other boats beyond beobachtet, die im Juli 2005 für GBP 3.592.000,00 (€ 5.210.162,09) versteigert wurde.
