However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van de Cappelle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A kaag and a smak in a calm, with fishermen pulling in their catch from a rowing-boat in the foreground, a Dutch frigate and other boats beyond, which sold at auction in July 2005 for GBP 3,592,000.00 (€ 5,210,162.09).
