This artwork by Jan Sanders van Hemessen achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2008. In the Important Old Master Paintings Part I And Part II auction, the work The Virgin And Child sold for USD 29,800.00 (€ 19,141.83) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Sanders van Hemessen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Double Portrait Of A Husband And Wife, Half-Length, Seated At A Table, Playing Tables in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 10,036,000.00 (€ 9,001,704.19).
