This artwork by Jan Mortel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2012. In the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work A Still Life With A Chinese Porcelain Jug, A Pewter Plate With A Herring, A Pomegranate, A Knife, An Onion, Grapes And Cherries, Together With A Snail And A Butterfly, All On A Stone Table Draped With A Grey Cloth sold for GBP 67,250.00 (€ 82,937.93) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 35,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Mortel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, pears, blackberries, sheafs of corn, chestnuts, walnuts, medlars, cherries and a pomegranate with a snail, a butterfly, a grasshopper and a caterpillar by a plinth, which sold at auction in December 2005 for GBP 120,000.00 (€ 174,173.28).

Für andere Arbeiten von Jan Mortel mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, pears, blackberries, sheafs of corn, chestnuts, walnuts, medlars, cherries and a pomegranate with a snail, a butterfly, a grasshopper and a caterpillar by a plinth beobachtet, die im Dezember 2005 für GBP 120.000,00 (€ 174.173,28) versteigert wurde.
